THE IMPACT OF STAFF GIVING
UWCSEA’s Staff Scholarship Fund
There are many ways to give at the College, but perhaps one of the most engaged and committed avenues is demonstrated through the ongoing generosity of our UWCSEA staff, who give annually to the Staff Scholarship Fund.
Over more than 20 years, the Staff Scholarship Fund has changed the lives of more than 30 young people, providing themwith access to a UWC education at both UWC Mahindra College in India and Waterford Kamhlaba UWC of Southern Africa, in Eswatini. UWCSEA’s relationships with Mahindra and Waterford originally began as an exchange opportunity. These relationships
grew into the annual staff supported scholarship opportunity that it is today.
UWCSEA staff give generously through monthly salary deductions.
The 2021/2022 programme supported four scholarships, two at Mahindra and two at Waterford. Stanzen ’23 (Scholar from India) started her UWC journey at UWC Mahindra as a Grade 11 student in January 2022 with UWCSEA Staff Scholarship support. The impact and opportunity the UWC scholarship has provided is evident in her words and reflections at the end of her first year:
“As I reflect through my one year journey at UWC, I see tremendous growth in myself academically, emotionally and socially. Throughout my life, I have always strived to get an education like this. Your generous support made it possible for me to receive a world class UWC education. In the future, I look forward to moving with the same attitude and try to strive for my personal growth and give back to the community what I have received.”

As a UWC, we are a part of a global movement. The UWCSEA Staff Scholarship fund is one way for UWCSEA staff to demonstrate that we are not just an isolated community here in Singapore, but that we are part of a larger movement and mission. In the words of Shruti Tewari, Head of University Advising at Dover Campus, Staff Scholarship supporter and committee member:
“Supporting the Staff Scholarship Fund allows us, as staff, to connect to our wider movement. In our day to day, we can forget that there is a bigger purpose to us being here. This fund is a reminder of how we can make a difference beyond our borders, our own school, and impact people’s lives. We are able to give access to UWC values, education, mission, and the network to students who may have never had the opportunity.”
