Ripples Through Time: From a humble fountain to the Tent Plaza we know today

Over time, the “aircon pool” took on a life of its own. What began as infrastructure soon became a backdrop to student activities. It played host to everything from kayaking and ziplining to the occasional (and often memorable) Seniors’ Prank—much to the teachers’ dismay. It was lively, a little unconventional, and entirely in keeping with the spirit of the school.

As the campus grew through the 1980s and early 1990s, evolving air-conditioning systems rendered the pool obsolete. By the mid-1990s, it had been drained, transforming the space into an open plaza. Then, in 1997, the now-iconic tent sails were raised, offering shade from the sun and shelter from the rain, and giving the space a new identity.

Since then, the Tent Plaza has remained at the heart of campus life. It is where students gather between classes, where ideas are exchanged, and where the everyday rhythm of school unfolds. From UN Nights and flash mobs to lunchtime exhibitions and fundraising stalls, it continues to be a space shaped by the energy of its community.

Every school has places that endure in memory, not just for what they were but for how they made people feel. At Dover Campus, the journey from aircon pool to Tent Plaza reflects more than a physical transformation. It tells a story of continuity through change. Though the water may be gone, its spirit ripples on, from the Tent Plaza to Tengah, where it will live on as a gathering place and crossroads for our community.
