UWC Day With our Boarders
By UWCSEA Communications Team
9 January 2026
A global celebration of the UWC Movement and Mission
Held annually on 21 September, UWC Day coincides with the United Nations International Day of Peace. Together as a community, we celebrate UWCSEA’s diversity and strength and reaffirm our commitment to the mission to make education a force for peace and a sustainable future.
Decked out in cultural dress and bubbling with energy, more than 300 boarders and the wider boarding community gathered to celebrate UWC Day in style.
Students and staff representing more than 50 countries flooded the Tent Plaza at Dover Campus in a wash of colour and escalating excitement as they shared conversation, song, dance and dress and had a chance to experience each other’s cultures.

One solo dancer dazzled the audience with a dance she learned in Peru, while another wowed with combined steps from different ethnic groups in Burkina Faso.
The theme, “Voices for Peace”, was ever present, especially during the masterful performances. A group of students took to the stage with a medley of dances from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and India.

Student performances included a solo of a folk song representing Andean identity and culture, a rendition of Imagine, a group performance of a Chinese song from the 2008 Beijing Olympics and several instrumental pieces.

“Like many people, I come from a background where we only see our people, our culture. I have a really important responsibility to show who I am and also represent my country and to value other cultures. With this UWCSEA experience and the knowledge I get, I truly know I will make a lot of plans for my community to make it better because that’s what we really need.”
- Samikai, Grade 11 student from Peru, Dover Campus

By the end of the evening, almost everyone had joined in.

“Whenever I think about UWC Day, I always think about unity. Even though we came from different backgrounds, different cultures, different countries, we came here to be united together, to become UWCSEA students.”
Greysson, Grade 11 student from Timor-Leste, East Campus
