Pauline Markey joined UWCSEA East as Primary School Principal in August 2017. She brings over 25 years of teaching and leadership experience in the UK as well as international schools. Pauline qualified in the UK where she taught and led for nine years in mainstream and special primary and secondary schools. She then worked as a teacher and principal in international schools in Kuwait and Qatar. From there she returned to Europe as Head of Primary and Vice Principal of the British School of Brussels (BSB).
After five very happy years at BSB, she was delighted by the opportunity to join UWCSEA with its excellent worldwide reputation, forward thinking approach, and values and philosophy so closely aligned with her own. Pauline is passionate about learning and its transformational nature. She firmly believes it is our duty as educators to provide the widest variety of opportunities for each student to enable them to flourish and grow as kind, caring, socially and globally responsible young people ready to make a difference in the world and be the very best they can be.
Pauline holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Social Sciences, Post Graduate certificates in Education and Special Educational Needs, a qualification in International Leadership and Management, and a Masters in Educational Leadership. She enjoys her role visiting international schools as part of CIS accreditation teams as a CIS visiting team member and Co-Chair.
Pauline is joined at UWCSEA East by her husband Paul who is Head of TOK in the High School and her daughter. Her son is in university in the UK. Together they look forward to exploring Singapore and beyond and learning more about the culture and diversity of the region.
