Damian Bacchoo joined UWCSEA East as High School Principal in February 2020. He brings over 20 years of teaching and leadership experience from across the education sector.
Damian first qualified in the UK where he taught for three years in mainstream secondary education, before attending the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, and commissioning into the Education and Training Services Branch of the British Army. Damian then moved to Dubai for 5 years, where he was Secondary Principal at GEMS Wellington Academy. Here he introduced a competency-based curriculum, and introduced the IB Diploma and Career-related Programmes. Damian subsequently joined the IB as the Global Head for the Diploma and Career-related Programmes, and before arriving in Singapore he was leading a project to open two new IB schools in Switzerland.
Damian is committed to life-worthy learning: and is excited about learning programmes that focus on competency and skills development, preparing young people for life beyond high-stakes exams. Damian believes that schools need to provide learning pathways that challenge young people to become their best-selves - to be confident, compassionate and committed to making a difference.
Damian has a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Sports Science from St Mary's University College; a Masters degree in Education and Innovation from Southampton University; and a Masters degree in Business and Administration from the Open University. He enjoys reading and cycling, but actually spends more time playing board games and drinking coffee. Damian is joined in Singapore by his wife and their three children, who are equally excited about exploring this strange new world together.
