Marcel Campbell became Director of Residential Life in August 2018, after joining UWCSEA East Campus in 2014 as a Boarding Houseparent. Born and raised in South Africa, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at the University of Stellenbosch. Passionate about language and teaching, she went on to obtain her teaching qualification thereafter, and has been a high school teacher of English Language and Literature, alongside being a houseparent, for the past 16 years.
After University, she worked at schools and universities in South Africa, Malaysia and South Korea before heading to Singapore and East Campus. Having been a scholarship student while in high school, she firmly believes in the power of education to change lives and communities. This, combined with her strongly service-oriented family background and her passion for boarding, made joining the UWC movement and the residential community at East Campus a most natural and exciting step.
She is fortunate enough to share her life and work with her husband, James, a houseparent at East Campus, and her daughter, Zola – all residing in Tampines House. She loves sharing her culture, travelling, reading and spending time being inspired by the terrific young people in the residential community at East.
