Gretchen DePoint

Gretchen has been an international educator for the last sixteen years and is joining UWCSEA East as the new Middle School Principal this August 2021. Most recently, she spent the last twelve years, eight of which as the MS Principal, in a large values-driven international school in Bangkok, Thailand, and four years in Israel. Before moving overseas, Gretchen taught Middle and High school art and special education for eight years in a diverse community in Upstate NY. Additionally, she has loved coaching both Girls and Boys Middle School and Varsity football (soccer) over the years.

Gretchen holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University, a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and Special Education from Pratt Institute, and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Dayton. Currently, she is pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership at East Carolina University.

Gretchen is passionate about the value of middle years education and strives to build developmentally appropriate and equitable learning environments that foster intellectual and social-emotional development. She enjoys working with colleagues through professional development around assessment practices, standards-based reporting, and providing personalized learning opportunities for students to discover their true passions through exposure, exploration, and experiences. Gretchen also keeps connected to the art realm as an IB Visual Arts Examiner.

As a parent of three children with various strengths and passions, she understands the desire to foster resilience and inclusion, to develop happy young adults with transferable skills that can give back to the community. Gretchen thoroughly enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, a committed life-long educator, and their children traveling, swimming, eating, boating, or playing various sports.
