Appointed as Deputy Director of the SMU Pro Bono Centre, School of Law in September 2020, Ruby was previously Associate Professor (Practice Track) in the Law Faculty at the National University of Singapore from January 2013 to June 2020.
During her tenure at NUS, she co-founded the Centre for Pro Bono and Clinical Legal Education and established the Corporate Law Clinic, which linked students with non profit and charitable institutions to work on corporate legal issues. Her academic career began at Temasek Polytechnic in 2010 as an External and Adjunct Lecturer in various courses for first and third year students as well as external students studying contract law, corporate law and company secretarial principals.
Previous to this, after practicing as a legal associate for six years, she held a number of positions in the Singapore office of a multi-national group of companies, where she served as Director of Legal, Personal Assistant to CEO, Head of Human Resource and Administration and Company Secretary.
Graduating with an LLB from the National University of Singapore in 1985, Ruby was called to the bar in 1986. She obtained an LLM from the London School of Economics in 1990, and is an advocate and solicitor to the Supreme Court in Singapore. She is also an Associate Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre.
Ruby was an advisor to the Governance Committee before being appointed to the UWCSEA Board of Governors in January 2020. Ruby is honoured to serve on the UWCSEA Board of Governors as she believes in the mission of education as a uniting force.
