Local Singapore Service

Dover Service JS K2 Shoebox Afternoon Tea

UWCSEA has long standing partnerships with around 65 Voluntary Welfare Organisations and charities in Singapore. Across the College, our students use their skills and interests to enrich the lives of local communities, and vice versa.

Typically, our students have monthly or weekly contact with a local organisation and engage in a range of activities which vary depending on the needs of the partner organisation and the age of our students. Each week all UWCSEA students volunteer around 1.5hrs in activities such as computer skills training, helping visitors enjoy our campus facilities such as playgrounds and art rooms, contributing to music therapy research to improve the lives of people living with dementia, or simply sharing life stories, playing board games, helping with homework, giving a foot massage, playing sports and even nail painting!

These services address local issues in Singapore, connecting students across all grades with the country they live in, and providing opportunities for them to learn about others and the rich cultural mix of the society we live in. Students are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences, attitudes and actions and through direct interaction, become better informed and more responsible members of their community.

UWCSEA has partnered with some of these Singaporean organisations over many years—even decades—and values the opportunity that the Local Singapore Service programme provides for us to connect with and give back to the community in which we live and learn.
