The UWCSEA Gap Year programme provides with a wide range of opportunities for personal growth and development, by providing our graduating students opportunities to put UWC values into practice.
Since 2008 over 200 UWCSEA volunteers have undertaken projects in Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, Malaysia. Nepal, Philippines, India and Cambodia. Each team of volunteers expanding on the sustainable work done by previous cohorts and deepening UWCSEA’s relationships with our partner NGO’s.
Volunteers work with a variety of hand-picked organizations who offer carefully structured and meaningful placements. There are opportunities to intern with human rights, paralegal and sustainable development NGO's, all of which have direct connections to UWCSEA. Alternatively you may assist with adventure programmes or work with environmental protection agencies. Volunteers can make real differences to other people's lives while learning about living in new and vibrant cultures.
The flexible nature of the programme means that participants can elect to undertake one or more placements of varying lengths, and in different destinations, allowing them to enjoy a variety of experiences. We have placements that can be tailored to a spectrum of academic interests, including sports science, medicine, law, environmental sciences, psychology, international relations, education and business management.
In order to prepare our students, we have collaborated with the British Council - a respected provider of English Language Teaching (ELT) courses. This exciting partnership has enabled us to set up a unique, affordable and accredited ELT-certification programme for those wishing to take a gap year. Come and join us!
As universities and employers are increasingly keen to take students with more rounded life experiences, a gap year spent working in a specific field can be a real enhancement to a student’s CV.
