Learning Environment

We know that in order for learning to be effective, learners must feel valued, cared for, secure and supported. Students with well-developed social and emotional skills are better equipped to manage themselves, relate to others, develop resilience and a sense of self-worth, resolve conflict, engage in teamwork and feel positive about themselves and the world around them.

Our campuses offer exceptional facilities suited to our hands-on and technologically integrated learning programme. From classrooms, resource centres and libraries equipped with state-of-the-art technology and tools, to professionally equipped performance spaces, to outstanding sporting facilities, both campuses provide an environment to support all five elements of our learning programme.

Whether purpose built, as in the East Campus, or having reimagined existing infrastructure on the site of the former St. John’s Army School in the case of Dover Campus, both locations have shared learning spaces that help to create a community. Age-appropriate facilities allow all students multiple opportunities to access authentic learning experiences in their immediate environment.

The GreenMark Platinum certification held by both campuses means they have achieved the highest ‘green building’ standard in Singapore. Environmental and design aspects of the buildings are integrated into our learning programme wherever possible. This helps to bring to life both systems thinking for students and our sustainability agenda to develop our students as environmental stewards.

Dover Campus

Located west of the CBD, near the National University of Singapore the spacious Dover Campus has recently completed a multi-year redevelopment plan and is now recognised for sustainable design.

Occupying 11 hectares (27 acres) in Clementi, just west of the central business district the Dover Campus is located in the heart of an established educational hub. Opened in 1971, the grounds feature many mature trees and open spaces. In the past decade, the campus has undergone a rejuvenation which included the construction of two new buildings, refurbishment of several others and the enhancement of already extensive sports and performing arts facilities to ensure we can deliver our ambitious learning programme. Facilities include a dedicated Primary School, extensive indoor and outdoor sports facilities and an array of play and performance spaces which are available to all students.

Awarded for its sustainable design features, universal accessibility features such as interconnecting, off-ground walkways to facilitate traffic between buildings on campus have been incorporated to facilitate student access to the facilities that support the learning programme.

Key aspects of the GreenMark Platinum certified buildings are integrated into the learning programme, and the ongoing development of the ‘Dover Green Heart’ will continue to transform the campus into a vibrant and inspiring space for our community.

East Campus

Founded in 2008, the East Campus is located in Tampines, a fast-developing northeastern hub near Changi Airport. The purpose-built campus is globally recognised for sustainable and universal school design.

Set on 5.5 hectares (13.5 acres) in the rapidly developing hub of Tampines in northeast Singapore, the East Campus is easily accessed from central, eastern and northern areas of Singapore.

Opened in 2011, the campus set a global benchmark in design and innovation in international schools. The distinctive new facility challenged traditional notions of school design and is entirely suited to the unique UWCSEA ethos and educational style. The campus is structured to support student collaboration and community as they explore our extensive curriculum offerings in specialist facilities such as the Design and Technology centre, the Arts block and extensive sports facilities.

The self-contained Infant Block allows our youngest students to flourish in an age-appropriate space with access to dedicated specialist facilities, while still maintaining links to their older peers.

Key aspects of the GreenMark Platinum certified buildings are integrated into our learning programme, and the ongoing development of the sustainability-linked teaching spaces such as The Hive, a Composting and Recycling Centre and a rooftop garden and rainforest tree nursery will continue to transform the campus into an inspiring, living learning space for our community.

Maximising available space, the campus is accessible for people of all ages and abilities and has a universal design award.
