Activity Seasons 2019/2020

There are four Activity seasons each year, which students sign up for online. These broadly match the sports seasons for the ACSIS competitions between international schools in Singapore. The Activities and Service programmes begin formally in Grade 2, though students in K2-Grade 1 can participate in a limited number of paid after-school activities (swimming, tennis and gymnastics).

The same online system is also used for students to sign-up to the Service programme. There are also a number of weekend activities offered by outside providers that are available for sign-up in the online system.

Parents are able to view the Activity and Service offerings using this link. Students sign-up using their own login - see sign-up section below.

Commitment and attendance

Once allocated to an Activity students are expected to make every effort to participate for the duration of the Activity season. Attendance is taken by the Activity supervisor at each session. If an Activity (or Service) requires a commitment of more than one season, this is clearly indicated in the sign-up system.

If they are unable to attend an allocated Activity due to other confirmed commitments, students should notify the Activity leader as soon as possible.

Sign-up

Students submit their preferences for the Activity and Service programmes using their individual login details, via the student portal. Participation in Activities and Service is a valuable part of each student's individual learning programme; since attendance and student reflections are recorded individually, sign-up must be done via the student login. Click here for a guide on using the sign-up system.

Parents are able to view the Activity and Service offerings using this linkPlease note: a parent username (those that end in a ‘p’) and password will only provide access to view the overview of available Activities and Services. Only student logins can access the sign-up system to submit preferences.

Once choices have been made an auto email will be sent to the student and parents confirming preferences submitted. If this email does not arrive, then the student should log back in and resubmit their preferences. Students can change their choices at any point during this week but must ensure they confirm their selection and receive a confirmation email.

Allocation

After submitting preferences, it is important to know that students have not been confirmed in any of the Activities they have selected (except for Local Service in High School), no matter how quickly they accessed the Activity sign-up once opened, i.e., it is not first-come, first-served. We try to involve as many students in the Activities programme as possible and do not begin allocating places until the sign-up period closes. Except for those Activities requiring try-outs or trials, the allocation system is only run once the sign ups are closed. Where possible we allocate students to their first preference but due to popularity of many Activities this is not possible. Students should select alternative preferences so as to avoid the disappointment of missing out altogether.

Dover Campus is a member of ACSIS and SEASAC (Singapore and regional sporting conferences) and in the case of competitive sports, and some music ensembles and drama productions, students must try out/audition before signing up. For swim and gym school, places are carried over to the following season, provided that the student signs up and confirms the place during the sign-up window.

Costs

Many Activities are included in tuition fees, however if there are costs for external coaches, equipment or venue hire or transport these will be clearly highlighted during the sign-up process.

If an activity needs payment, this is made clear in the email that goes to students and parents before allocation, outlining student preferences. If parents do not wish to pay, they must inform Activities team immediately - before allocation - as once a student is allocated a paid activity, parents are liable to pay. Please ensure all payments are made by the deadline. Students may lose their place if payment is not made on time. Parents will be emailed a link to make payment for allocated activities that involve additional costs. Parents are able to make payment for these Activities online, using Visa or MasterCard.
