UWCSEA Application Acknowledgment (Japanese)
Thank you for your application to join UWCSEA
What happens next?
All applications are reviewed before we can advise on the eligibility of the applicant to be considered for a place at UWCSEA. This may mean that we request more information, or invite the applicant to an interview or to take some form of assessment. The details of the process after this vary depending on the grade applied for, and whether it is for a day or boarding place. We have set out each step below.
Updating your application
You can update your contact details through the application system at any time by logging in. A reminder that the username is your principal email address and the passphrase is retrievable by clicking on 'Forgot Passphrase' on the login page.
If necessary, you can login to upload additional documents, such as copies of recent school reports, to support your child's application.
Application cycle step-by-step
- Step 1: application review
- Step 2: assessments
- Step 3: allocation of places
- Step 4: offer of a place
- Step 5: accepting a place (important timeline)
Step 1: application review
All applicants need to meet our entry criteria for the relevant grade. Our principal concern is that every child is able to progress with confidence from the first day they join the College.
For Middle and High School applicants, we also look for the potential to live up to the idealism of UWCSEA’s mission and values.
- Infant School
- Junior and Middle School
- Grade 7 Dutch and Swiss School (Dover)
- High School
- Boarding G8-11
Infant School
All applications are reviewed to ensure your child has the language skills, a level of independence, and the social skills that will enable them to thrive in our programmes.
If more information is required, we will contact your child’s current preschool and/or invite your child to participate in an observational play-based readiness session, either in-person or virtually. This session may be held with other applicants or individually, depending on the grade applied for and timing of the application.
Following our review, we will contact you via email with the outcome (usually within a month of receiving this acknowledgment), which will be either that:
- your child’s application will be placed in the application pool with other eligible applicants. This does not confirm that your child will be offered a place; it simply means that your child will be considered when places are allocated during one of our offer periods; or
- your child may not be ready to join our Infant School. The Director of Admissions will advise you by email, after which the application will close. You are welcome to re-apply in the future if you remain interested in UWCSEA.
Junior and Middle School
We look for consistently good reports from the last two years of your child’s schooling, particularly a positive learning attitude and good study habits. We also look for a level of English that will allow the student to thrive in the curriculum; for some multilingual learners, this may include English as an Additional Language (EAL) support.
All applications are reviewed. If more information is required, we may ask your child to take an assessment or contact their current school. We will advise you of the outcome of the review via email, usually within a month of receiving this acknowledgment.
If you are applying for a boarding place (Grade 8), we also consider carefully your child’s suitability to board. This involves reviewing the information in the application, and an interview with a Boarding Houseparent or one of the Directors of Residential Life.
If the review indicates your child meets our entry criteria, the application will be placed in the application pool with other eligible applicants. This does not confirm that your child will be offered a place; it simply means that your child will be considered when places are allocated during one of our offer periods.
If the review indicates that there is or might be a need for additional support, our ability to provide that support will be a factor in determining whether we can consider the application when allocating places.
If the review indicates that our entry criteria are not met, the Director of Admissions will advise you by email, after which the application will close. You are welcome to re-apply in the future if you remain interested in UWCSEA.
Grade 7 Dutch and Swiss School (Dover)
We look for consistently good reports from the last two years of your child’s schooling, particularly a positive learning attitude and good study habits. We also look for a level of English that will allow the student to thrive in the curriculum; for some multilingual learners, this may include English as an Additional Language (EAL) support.
All applications are reviewed. We will advise you of the outcome of the review via email (usually within a month of receiving this acknowledgment). All eligible applicants from the Swiss and Dutch Schools are invited to take an English assessment in February.
If the review indicates that there is or might be a need for additional support, our ability to provide that support will be a factor in determining whether we can consider the application when allocating places.
If the review and English assessment (if conducted) indicate that the entry criteria are not met, the Director of Admissions will advise you by email, after which the application will close.
High School
We look for consistently good reports from the last two years of your child’s schooling, particularly a positive learning attitude and good study habits. We also look for a level of English that will allow the student to thrive in the curriculum; for some multilingual learners, this may include taking the English as a Second Language course as part of the curriculum. We are especially interested in evidence of positive and authentic involvement in school and community life beyond academics, and the applicant’s potential to align with UWCSEA’s mission and values.
If the initial review shows that your child’s application meets the entry criteria, we will invite your child to participate in an on-campus or virtual Immersion Programme, described in the assessments section below.
If the application review and/or Immersion Programme indicate that our entry criteria are not met, the Director of Admissions will advise you by email, after which the application will close. Grade 9 and Grade 10 Foundation IB applicants are welcome to re-apply if they remain interested in UWCSEA.
Boarding G8-11
In addition to the application review carried out for day applicants, if you are applying for a boarding place, we also consider carefully your child's suitability to board.
This involves reviewing the information in the application, and an interview with a Boarding Houseparent or the Director of Residential Life.
Step 2: assessments
Infant School
If more information is required beyond school reports, we may invite your child to participate in an observational, play-based readiness session, which will be held between November and February, depending on when the application is made. This session may be held with other applicants or individually, depending on the grade applied for and timing of the application.
Junior and Middle School
If more information is required beyond school reports and the details provided in the application, we may invite your child to take an assessment.
English as an Additional Language (EAL) Assessment
Applicants who speak a home language other than English and who have not been studying in an English-medium school for 2-3 years may be invited to take an EAL assessment. Applicants who are currently receiving support within their school’s EAL (ELL/ESL) programmes, as well as those who may have recently exited such programmes will be invited to take an EAL assessment.
The EAL assessment comprises age-appropriate reading, writing, and speaking tasks to determine each student’s levels of listening, speaking, reading, and writing ability so that if a place is offered and accepted, the student can thrive with the required level of EAL support available.
Dual campus applicants will be assessed by the EAL teacher at one or the other campus. They do not need to take a different assessment for each campus.
Learning Support or Literacy Assessment
Children who have diagnosed learning needs or currently receive learning support either at school or externally will be assessed to determine if we can support their learning needs.
If school reports or other information in the application indicate that a student may need additional support, we may also invite the applicant for an assessment.
Interviews
We may occasionally interview a day student applicant where it would be helpful to have more information, for example, where there have been unusual educational or other circumstances, or where a decision on age-grade placement is needed.
All Grade 8 boarding applicants are invited to an interview with a Boarding Houseparent or one of the Director of Residential Life.
High School
If our initial review shows that the application meets our entry criteria, we will invite your child to participate in an Immersion Programme which will take place either on campus or virtually between October and March.
To ensure a diverse group of participants and programme timings that suit your child’s time zones, each applicant will be assigned a particular date, and given at least two weeks notice of the date and time of their immersion programme.
Important note on how application deadlines relate to offers
If the application met the deadline for Round 1 offers, the Immersion Programme will be held between October and December and your child will be considered for an offer in Round 1. If we are not able to offer a place in Round 1, your child will continue to be considered for an offer in Round 2 unless you choose to withdraw the application.
If the application is submitted after the deadline for Round 1 offers, but before the deadline for Round 2 offers, the Immersion Programme will be held between January and March, unless there is space available for an earlier date. Your child will not, however, be considered for a Round 1 offer even if the Immersion Programme takes place before Round 1 offers are made.
Immersion Programme
Involving around 14 applicants, each event includes interactive activities and an interview. Applicants participate in a discussion forum and activities led by Admissions staff and UWCSEA students. Applicants are also interviewed by a member of our High School or Boarding staff, depending on whether they are day or boarding applicants. Some applicants may also complete language assessments.
We will provide details of any language assessments following our initial review of the application. The purpose of the assessment is to determine the most appropriate course placement for your child based on their academic background and proficiency in the language concerned. The assessment does not determine whether or not your child will be offered a place.
All High School applicants who are English as an Additional Language learners will be asked to take an English proficiency assessment; details will be provided in advance.
Additional requirements for Grade 11 IB Diploma Programme applicants
Those choosing either a Language A other than English or a Language B as their second language will be asked to take an assessment or provide a writing sample, and may be invited to an interview with the relevant language teacher.
Your child will be asked to provide either a marked or graded piece of written work in the Language A or Language B, written by your child within a year of the application and marked by your child’s language teacher (not a private tutor), or to provide a written essay response to an essay question for Language A provided by UWCSEA.
If requesting Design Technology, we will ask the applicant to complete an additional questionnaire at this stage.
If requesting Art or Music, the applicant will be asked to provide evidence of their performance standard at this stage.
Applicants whose interview and assessments indicate that they would be in a position to progress well in our High School programmes, and who have demonstrated that they have met the broader aspects of our entry criteria, are placed in the pool for consideration when places are allocated. This does not confirm that your child will be offered a place; it means that your child’s application will be considered when available places are allocated during the offer periods.
If, following the Immersion Programme, the Director of Admissions concludes that the College will not be a good fit for your child, or that we are not going to be able to offer a place due to the number of eligible candidates, the Director will advise you by email, after which the application will close.
Grade 9 and Grade 10 Foundation IB applicants are welcome to re-apply if they remain interested in UWCSEA.
Boarding G8-11
Step 3: allocation of places
As the number of eligible applicants usually exceeds the number of places available, we allocate places based on a range of criteria. Principal amongst these is the potential of each applicant to live up to the idealism of UWCSEA’s mission and values.
Other criteria are applied to ensure a balanced and diverse cohort, in line with the College’s mission and our commitment to diversity.
Step 4: offer of a place
Infant, Junior and Middle School
We offer places to eligible applicants in two phases.
The first round of offers will be in early December and the second in early March. We expect to fill all anticipated spaces by early March, but will continue to make further offers if places become available following our withdrawal deadline for current students in mid-April.
If you apply by the deadline for early December offers and are not offered a place, we will continue to consider the application for the March offers. If it is clear after the second round of offers that a place will not be available, we contact families in mid-March so that you have time to make alternative arrangements. We may ask if you would like your child to be considered for any places that may unexpectedly arise up to the start of Term 1.
Offers for January entry are made in mid to end October, once we know how many leaver places have become available.
If you have applied for K1 at the Dover Campus and we are not able to offer a place, you will next be able to re-apply to Dover Campus when your child is eligible for entry to Grade 1. This is because we do not add a new class in K2 and therefore do not open applications for K2 at the Dover Campus.
If you applied for K1 at the East Campus, you will be able to re-apply for entry in K2. In both instances, this will require updating your previous application, and submitting a new application fee.
If we are not able to offer a place, you will be able to re-apply for entry in the following or later years. This will involve updating your previous application, and submitting a new application fee.
Grade 7 Dutch and Swiss School (Dover)
High School
We offer places to eligible applicants in two phases.
The first round of offers is in mid-January and the second in late March. We expect to fill all anticipated spaces by the end of March, but will continue to make further offers if places become available following our withdrawal deadline for current students in mid-April.
If you apply by the deadline for January offers and are not offered a place, we will continue to consider you for March offers. If we are not able to offer your child a place we will contact you by the end of April to let you know. We may ask if you would like your child to be considered for any places that may unexpectedly arise up to the start of Term 1.
If we are not able to offer a place to a Grade 9 or Grade 10 (Foundation IB) applicant, you will be able to re-apply for Grade 10 (Foundation IB) or Grade 11 (IB Diploma). This will involve updating your previous application, and submitting a new application fee.
Boarding G8-11
We offer places to eligible applicants, including Grade 8 applicants, in two phases.
If we are not able to offer a place, you will be able to re-apply the following year (unless your child was applying for Grade 11 entry to the IB Diploma as we are unable to admit students halfway through the two-year course). This will involve updating your previous application, and submitting a new application fee.
Step 5: accepting a place (important timeline)
Infant, Junior and Middle School
To be fair to all applicants, we require families to adhere to the two key timeframes set out below. If we do not receive a response within either of these timeframes, the offer will lapse and the place will be offered to another applicant.
1. Email offer
If we are able to offer your child a place, we contact you by email to confirm that you wish to accept the place. Please respond to this email offer within two working days.
2. Formal offer and acceptance
Once we receive your email confirming you wish to proceed, we will email an enrolment pack to you. The pack will include the formal letter of offer and a Confirmation of Acceptance agreement, as well as other important information relating to your child’s enrolment.
To secure the place, parents need to electronically sign the Confirmation of Acceptance and then submit payment of the acceptance fees (being the enrolment fee and Term 1 fees) within two weeks. These fees are non-refundable should you later cancel your acceptance.

Subject selection notice
UWCSEA’s wide range of subject choices, including language offerings, usually enables us to accommodate most students’ preferred subject selections. However, a particular subject or combination of subjects may be limited by timetabling or staffing constraints.
In addition, admissions assessments and the resulting recommended placement may not support a student’s preferred subject choices, so all High School offers are conditional on the student and their family accepting these constraints and agreeing to appropriate subject placement guided by the expertise of UWCSEA’s faculty.
Applicants may also be recommended a change of subject or level by the academic/pastoral team once they have enroled at the College, if the original subject placement is proving not to be the best fit for the student’s abilities or interests.

Important consideration
Our Standard Terms and Conditions for boarding acceptances include the agreement that students who join our boarding houses commit to remain a boarder for:
-
one full academic year, in the case of Grade 8 to Grade 10 students
- until the completion of the IB Diploma Programme, in the case of Grade 11 and 12 students

Admissions Policies Reminders
All offers for a place at the College, and continued enrolment, are subject to your acceptance and agreement to our Standard Terms and Conditions, a copy of which will be included in your enrolment pack. In making an application you indicated you had read and agreed to these Terms and Condition. Should you be offered a place, signing your acceptance includes agreement to these Terms and Conditions.
It is important that you read all the Terms and Conditions, but we would like to draw your particular attention to the following:
- Transfer between campuses is not possible
- Full disclosure requirements - citizenship and educational history
- Residency requirements for parents of day students
- Non refundable application fee is valid for one application cycle
Transfer between campuses is not possible
Full disclosure requirements - citizenship and educational history
It is critical that you disclose the nationality and citizenship of your child, particularly if they are, or are likely during the application cycle to become, a Singapore Citizen. The Singapore Government requires that Singapore Citizens enrol in Ministry of Education (MOE) schools unless the College has applied to the MOE for a waiver on the child’s behalf. Please contact Admissions as soon as possible if the applicant is a Singapore Citizen and you have not previously disclosed this in their application. It is also necessary to advise us if the applicant becomes or might become a Singapore Citizen at any time between now and the year in which they would be required to register for Primary 1 in the Singapore MOE school system.
It is also a condition of enrolment that you disclose complete and accurate information relating to your child’s learning needs and ability to progress in the programme we offer. All information, including copies of reports or assessments relating to your child’s learning or that may have an impact upon your child’s ability to progress well at the College, of which you are aware at the time of application, or become aware of (during the application process and following admission), should be fully disclosed immediately upon receipt.
Failure to fully disclose may result in the application being closed, an offer withdrawn or enrolment cancelled.
Residency requirements for parents of day students
All day students must reside with one or both parents in a permanent residential situation in Singapore. This means having at least one parent present in Singapore for at least 90% of term time for the duration of your child’s enrolment at the College. If both parents are to be absent from Singapore for more than 10% of term time, the student must withdraw from the College.
Students in Grade 8 and above can apply to enter the Boarding House, however this is dependent on a place being available in Boarding and a transfer from day to boarding cannot be guaranteed.
Please review our Immigration Status and Residency guidance.
Non refundable application fee is valid for one application cycle
Communication with Admissions
The principal means of communication during the admissions process will be email.
Due to the sometimes short deadlines involved (two working days in some instances), it is vital that you update us on any changes to your contact details, particularly your email address.
