Remembering the Small Hall

Robert Matthew, a famous modernist architect from Edinburgh, Scotland, who also designed the Main Hall, apparently designed this uniquely interesting performance space. The theatre was always a favoured venue for Drama department teachers and student directors and producers who valued the ‘thrust stage’ configuration with audience on three sides, creating a warm intimacy between performers and audience. Despite many efforts to save this glorious space, were unsuccessful and the Small Hall was demolished in 2013 to make way for the new building which houses the High School office, Exam Hall, Drama Blackbox, Admissions and DEER offices.
