Learning to shape the future
22–23 April 2022
In celebration of 50 years of UWCSEA in Singapore, we will be hosting presentations, workshops and conversations with the international education community on our themes of Sustainability, Peace, Innovation, Inclusion and Partnership.
There will be inspirational sessions from thought leaders in education:
- Howard Gardner, Hobbs Professor of Cognition and Education, Harvard Graduate School of Education, focused on the impact of an international education and the future of university education
- Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills, and Special Advisor on Education Policy to the Secretary-General at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris, will discuss holistic education in a high-tech era
They will be joined by our own:
- Musimbi Kanyoro, Chair of the Board of UWC International, and Board member of CARE International and UN Global Compact, will talk about the past and future of the UWC movement
- Faith Abiodun, Executive Director, UWC International, will join a panel of UWCSEA students to talk about our commitment to change and the need for a different approach to building a more peaceful and sustainable world
Looking further to the future, we will also hear from:
- Forrest Li, Founder and Group CEO of Sea Ltd, will bring a number of guests to discuss the future world of work and trends emerging in the workplace, including the role of technology as an enabler for change
- Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow, Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore, will examine the key question of whether the 21st century will continue to remain peaceful
Guest speakers from our parent, staff, alumni and student community will showcase their work and extend our thinking across our themes. We will also welcome special guests from Amala, who are transforming the lives of refugees through education, and from Oregon State University–Cascades, talking about their longitudinal study with UWCSEA and the role of outdoor experiences in a sustainable holistic education.
An exciting celebration of the role of education in a peaceful and sustainable world, all sessions will be broadcast live online. We hope we might also be able to welcome those in Singapore to one or more of the keynote sessions being held in person on our Dover Campus. Your voice is important, please join us!
