Entrepreneurship is about realising the full value in our ideas. And by value, I don’t mean the financial value. It’s about realising the value of what you’re contributing back to society, or to a cause or the world. I learned about this from UWCSEA."Mayank Singhal ’92, Entrepreneur, Managing Director and CEO of PI Industries and Founding Benefactor, UWCSEA IDEAS Hub

I have been part of PI Industries for more than 20 years. This is a family business, started by my grandfather immediately after the second world war, and in my time I have held a number of positions across different functions in order to best learn the business and prepare me for my role today.

My entrepreneurial spirit drives me towards science-based solutions to current problems facing the world, and my focus has always been about balancing our ambition to create some of India’s leading agri-product brands with a real concern for the environment and the people within it. I have a deep commitment to creating a balance so that the environment can sustain both itself and the humanity that relies on it.

That focus on balance, and using innovation to find that balance in order to create value to both my company and the world, has been a key part of my success. Part of the reason for the rapid growth and expansion of PI Industries, creating a successful global footprint in the agri-product industry, has been because we have looked to science for innovative solutions. Some of my proudest moments have been when we have been recognised for our research and improvement. This inspires me to pursue further innovative solutions, and to proactively look for better ways to manage waste and emissions to create a green workplace and surrounding environment.

Entrepreneurship is to me about realising the full value in our ideas. And by value I don’t mean the financial value. It’s about realising the value of what you’re contributing back to society, or to a cause or to the world, without expecting anything back in return. And I learned about this from UWCSEA, it was part of the education I received.

At UWCSEA, I learned so much. We learned to understand different cultures and societies from across the world, grounded in the core value of giving back to the world. This seemed to me to be unique to UWC. My fellow students, from all over the world, helped me understand the way people think and do business in different cultures.

Mayank attended UWCSEA for Grades 8, 9 and 10, experiencing the residential boarding programme on Dover Campus. While in the High School, he studied Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Geography, Spanish and English.
