Technology

UWCSEA's approach to the use of technology is based on a large body of research that clearly shows the benefits of technology to support learning. All students learn to use technology as a tool to facilitate learning and self management and have access to devices on a daily basis.

East MS Academics

As a balance to that, we also recognise that while technology can be an important way to improve learning, it is only important as long as it supports learning rather than distracts from it. This means that a core focus for us remains helping students to develop strategies for dealing with distraction and managing the impact of the easy availability of devices.

We have a strong focus on professional development for teachers which in turn helps to ensure that students use technology extensively and appropriately.  Teachers are supported by a team who help to maximise the use of technology for learning.

Led by the Head of Digital Learning Technologies on each campus, our Digital Literacy Coaches are assigned to each school section and supported by technology mentors. This team ensures that technology is integrated into our classrooms in educationally appropriate ways on each campus. They also provide workshops and information for parents each year based on the developmental needs of the child.

Digital Citizenship and Generation Safe

Our PSE programme also specifically provides education on issues around digital citizenship and safety online. UWCSEA is part of an international accreditation system, Generation Safe, to help ensure that we are offering comprehensive support in this important area.

We have also implemented a Safe Behaviours strand as part of our PSE curriculum; one of the key topics is addressing issues around online safety in age-appropriate ways.

Student access to technology

All students are issued with a College-linked account on the UWCSEA G Suite for Education account as their official means of school-student communication.

This provides access to a school-linked email address and all the associated G Suite for education applications. It also allows us to provide access to our online resources (such as the digital resources in the Library), the online learning platforms Teamie and SeeSaw, ePortfolios and many other systems that we use to support learning across our programmes.

Importantly, from a safeguarding perspective the use of a G Suite for Education account provides us with a platform that allows us to communicate with and manage our students data securely. More information on the platform can be found on G Suite Admin Help
