There is a perpetual buzz of energy, ideas and excitement emanating from the IDEAS Hub on Dover Campus. It is a place that inspires and supports our UWCSEA community to explore, innovate, collaborate and create sustainable solutions to shape a better world.
Innovation and social entrepreneurism have been characteristics of the UWC movement and UWCSEA from the earliest days. From the development of the Rigid Hull Inflatable lifeboat at UWC Atlantic College in 1966, a design which was later adopted by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the development of the far reaching Global Concerns programme at UWCSEA, and the latest Solar for UWCSEA initiative, staff and students are challenged and encouraged to develop groundbreaking ideas to help make the world a better place.
The IDEAS Hub was born of this same spirit—to provide opportunities and assistance to the community as they develop their skills, understanding and passion to become effective changemakers.
Since opening in 2016, the bold vision of the IDEAS Hub on Dover Campus has come to life, inspiring hundreds of students to reflect on the most pressing challenges of our time, nurture their own ideas and solutions, and reimagine what is possible in our ever-changing global world. We have developed the physical space, incorporated new tools, equipment and technology, and welcomed dedicated staff members to run the facility and support programming. We have also welcomed hundreds of parents and community and industry leaders to join students for numerous events, activities, workshops, and competitions in four broad categories: explore, create, collaborate, and innovate.
Entrepreneurship in the world of today to me is about taking an idea, converting it and creating value for it. Value is not a way of only measuring it in terms of money. It is also what you’re contributing, and that could be to society or to a cause.
