UWCSEA Students
We are enormously proud of our students. From the youngest students in the Infant School, beginning to learn independence, to our oldest Grade 12 students, grappling with choices on their next steps, every day we learn from them.
Despite the high academic demands of our programme, students are enrolled on the basis of much more than their academic profile and this is evident in the enthusiasm and energy of the student community on both campuses. Each day, our students demonstrate their commitment to our mission, take considered action in line with our values, involve themselves in the many opportunities offered by the College and maintain a belief that action and service can make a positive impact in the world.
Our students are immersed in a setting of diverse cultures and rich heritage and this contributes significantly to their educational experience. Our curriculum deliberately creates opportunities across all five elements of our learning programme for students to investigate and value their different histories and talents, as well as those of other people and cultures. Every day, we provide multiple opportunities for each student to explore their passions and expand their horizons.
Part of the unique nature of a UWCSEA education is that students enrolling in the High School are joined by ‘scholars’—students from a range of countries and backgrounds who have been awarded a scholarship based on their commitment to the ideals of the UWC movement.
We encourage our students to use their initiative and to embark on journeys of self-discovery without fear of failure. While experiencing success develops their self-confidence, the experience of failing helps them to learn resilience, perseverance and the ability to turn difficult experiences into opportunities. Our students always take up this challenge, and their progression through the College can be seen through their increasing independence and the development of a strong values system that stays with them long after they leave school.
The student experience at the College is carefully designed and regularly reviewed. We know the overall experience students have is influenced by far more than the educational opportunities we provide and so we create a safe and secure environment for students to grow in understanding of themselves and others. We also support those who need it and equally, we celebrate achievements of all kinds. Above all, we make sure we know them as individuals so that they each have a voice and the respect and care that is their human right.
We value and celebrate the contribution of each student. We see all our students as leaders whose collective effort can have an extraordinary impact on the world.
