Voices, presented by the Voices of Women in Solidarity (VOWS) Focus Group and Daraja Global Concerns (GC) Group, is a powerful community and High School production that brings stories to life through monologues, spoken word poetry, skits, and songs. This year, the production at East Campus focused on themes of resilience, empowerment, and solidarity, offering a platform for important conversations about gender-based violence and social change.

The production, which took place last February, featured a group of High School students and teachers—some of whom took to the stage themselves. Through their performances, they shed light on pressing issues, fostering a space for dialogue and reflection on these critical topics.

Inspired by the V-Day movement, Voices highlighted the ways storytelling can spark change, while a collaboration with AWARE Singapore deepened the conversation, offering valuable insights into gender justice both locally and globally.

Beyond the performances, Voices has grown into a meaningful initiative where students and staff come together to advocate for change. What started as a small group has now expanded into a vibrant collective of 17 members and performers, each contributing to an atmosphere of trust and expression. The event not only showcased artistic talent but also provided a platform for individuals to share their truths and challenge societal norms.

The evening highlighted the courage and passion of the performers, who used their voices to share stories that are often left unheard. With themes ranging from personal experiences to broader societal issues, the performances struck a chord with the audience, sparking reflection and meaningful discussions.

Reflecting on the experience, Ana, the student leader and Chair of Voices shared:

As the student leader and chair of Voices for the past 2 years, I have learned so much about how to lead and create a safe space for people to express themselves through art. I have seen people find a space where they can truly be themselves and grow outside of their shells and I think that is what is truly important. I believe making a difference in just one person can motivate them to make a change in others and a domino effect can occur where we continue to create safe spaces for everybody.

As my graduation approaches, I can look back on all that I have done for Voices and how far we have come from a small activity with only three people to what we are now with 17 members and performers. I am so excited to see what Voices become in future.

As we mark International Women’s Day 2025, Voices showcases the power of advocacy within our College. Led by students and staff, it provides a platform to speak up for women, creating a supportive space for reflection and dialogue. Through art and turning it into action, it drives a culture of awareness, empowerment, and change—ensuring these critical conversations extend far beyond the stage.
