UWCSEA East Straits Touch Tournament U18 team report
By Hui Choong, Touch Football Team Captain, UWCSEA East
The Straits Touch tournament at Marlborough College in Malaysia is a highlight of the Touch season, and was no different this year. After an early start - on the bus at 5:30am - we played five 15 minute games in the humidity of Johor. Although winning the first game, the team got off to a rough start still trying to get into the groove and use to the extremely muddy fields. We finished at the top of our pool tying with Tanglin Trust School (TTS), and finishing our last pool game with an impressive 11-1. Our semi-finals resulted in a tie with the Singapore American School (SAS), where we prevailed in the overtime drop-offs with a final score of 1-0.
Moving forward, we knew that our finals would consist of a tough match against UWCSEA Dover. The girls played hard and persevered through the long and humid day to end with a respectable loss of 1-2. The silver medal hanging around our necks at the end of the day was an indication of how far we have come this season and how much more we still have to prove.
