UWCSEA competes in 2018 Singapore Youth Sailing Championship

The 2018 Singapore Youth Sailing Championship was a blast. Seven out of the ten members of the combined UWCSEA Sailing Team took part in the two-day event. We started early and rigged our boats before the actual race began at 12.30pm and continued until 5pm under the hot sun. As a team, in my opinion, we tried our hardest to compete and have competitive starts trying to not go over the line within the start time of five minutes. I recall that the wind speeds were remarkably high as it allowed us to hike-out of our boats and have faster movement on the water.
Despite our team finishing low on the leaderboard, I believe that we all learned valuable lessons about racing on such a huge scale against 20-30 of Singapore's top sailors. I believe that we will take these lessons to our next upcoming race in April at the SAF Yacht Club Regatta. In addition, these skills will be helpful for our upcoming team trip to sail in the first ever UWC competition at Atlantic College in Wales this summer.
