This week the UWCSEA Dover Campus girl's U19 hockey team had the opportunity to attend a training session with the Australian National Women's hockey team, the "Hockeyroos", including Q&A with the players, skill development and speed drills. This was an incredible learning experience for the UWCSEA team as the as the Aussie players prepare for the Rio Olympics in August. The Australians shared their stories on the journey to becoming an member of the national squad, their training routines, daily lives and for the most part, their practical expertise. During the question period, one UWCSEA student asked the team, “Do you have to start young to be good at hockey?” The answer was that it all depends on the player; their abilities and how hard they are willing to work.
If you would like to learn more about hockey, or give it a try the Hockeyroos will be in Singapore for the next week, playing in the The Project Group’s Tri-Series test with matches against the Netherlands (currently World No.1) and Germany (currently World No.8). If you would like to come and support these top-ranked teams, the matches are from Monday to Friday and are free of charge. The timetable is as follows:
Monday, 18 January 2016: 7pm Australia vs Germany
Tuesday, 19 January 2016: 7pm Germany vs Nederlands
Wednesday, 20 January 2016: 7pm Nederlands vs Australia
Thursday, 21 January 2016: 7pm Australia vs Germany
Friday, 22 January 2016: 7pm Nederlands vs Australia
All the matches will be played in the Sengkang Hockey Stadium, 57 Anchorvale Road.
