Today marked the start of the 2018/2019 school year at UWC South East Asia. Nine-hundred twenty new students have joined our UWCSEA community and we extend a heartfelt welcome to all new students, families and staff at the College this August. Equally, a very warm ‘welcome back’ to all returning students, parents and staff.
With this year's enrolment steady at 5,594 students across the College – 3,037 on Dover Campus and 2,557 on East Campus – UWCSEA continues to be one of the largest international schools in the world. A truly international school, our students come from over 90 countries and speak over 70 different languages.
This year 89 scholarship students from 45 countries have moved to Singapore to join our residential boarding houses. Most of these students were awarded scholarships by the UWC national committee in their home country and will attend UWCSEA to complete the two-year IB Diploma Programme. These passionate, capable and talented individuals were selected on the basis of their commitment to the UWC mission and values, and enrich the College community by sharing their culture, life experiences and perspectives. Importantly, they also provide all our students the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of different people, cultures and global issues. Generous gifts to the College through the UWCSEA Foundation support many of these scholarships.
We wish everyone an exciting and successful year of learning ahead as we strive to educate for peace and a sustainable future!
