East Dragons awarded Best Visiting Team at Feeding Frenzy 2018 in Bangkok

From Friday, 7 to Sunday, 9 December, the biggest ever team of East Campus Dragons travelled to Bangkok to attend the annual Feeding Frenzy Swim Meet hosted by the Bangkok Patana School. Like many previous years the meet is not only incredibly fun, but also very fast with countless personal best's and records challenged - and falling!

The travel started early on day one for the Dragons, meeting at 5am at Changi. But as this was just earlier than normal morning training most Dragons were unfazed. The official meet beginning that evening, with mixed medley relays. Our 11-12yrs age group come 3rd and 15&Over age group dominated, placing both 1st and 2nd. Rasmus came 1st in 1500m free, Jono 1st in 800m Free, and Ruby 1st in 400Im with Adi 3rd and Arkie 4th. Also in 400Im Kento and Jeremy came 2nd in their respective age groups and Ben was just outside the podium in 4th place.

Saturday started off with some speed. In the 100m freestyle three East boys placed in the top 5; Owen, Jeremy and Nic, with  Ninah coming 7th and Tilly placing 11th with a 13 second PB! Also notably, Alle and Ruby gained a 2nd and 4th. Moving through the day we saw many more PBs and great swims: 50m Breast was a frenzy with Ninah, Kento, Ben, Melody, Adi, Gus and Kelly all in the top 4; Jeremy come 1st in 200m Individual Medley, and Yalkin, Justin, Yasmin and Rhea all made PBs in the 100m Back. The day finished strong with almost all the Womans A relay teams finishing on the podium and 15&Over A and B teams coming in 1st and 3rd.

While eeveryone was a little tired on the final day, that didn't stop the team. Kento and Melody both started the day strongly in 100m breast with PBs and podiums, with Adi and Kelly coming 1st and 2nd. Next Jeremy, Alle and Nicolai lead the charge coming 2nd, 3rd and 5th in 200m Backstroke. Quite possibly the whole team swam a 50m freestyle. While there were too many PBs to count, some notable swims came from Oliver P, Daniel, Isabella, Dominique, Maia, Alexa and Solomon. In 100m Fly, there was a valiant effort with both Owen and Ruby coming 1st, Daniel and Oliver P coming 6th and 7th, and Klaudia in 5th. Jono managed a bronze in 200m Freestyke narrowly missing 2nd by a 4/100ths of a second. Also in 200m Freestyle Nea placed with a 7 second PB. 50m Back was also successful with Owen, Jeremy and Nicolai all coming top 5, Oliver and Daniel coming 4th and 6th and Tilly coming 14th with a 7 second PB. Finally the day was wrapped up on a really positive note with the 15&Over Girls winning the 200m Free Relay and 9/10yrs and 11/12yrs team coming 2nd and 3rd. The boys teams also did extremely well 13/14 team coming 3rd and 15 over teams (A and B) coming 1st and 4th.

The end of the meet was also a time for celebration as Ruby came 2nd overall in her age group, Owen and Jeremy came 2nd and 3rd, and as a team we placed as rhe best visiting team for another consecttive year.

Overall the meet was a humongous success with huge PB's, many podium places, and most importantly a lot of fun. The team captains this year were "the best we've ever had" (thanks Coach Smith) keeping everyone organised and ensuring a smooth, problem free meet, even with such a large team. A huge thanks to all the organisers at Patana, and parents who traveled to support us. It was a meet to show progress and growth not only within individuals but also by the whole Dragons team.
