It was an action packed morning for our pocket rocket Dragon swimmers on 22 February as our seasonal development meet got underway! We here at East Dragons Swimming are constantly finding new ways and opportunities to help better our athletes. This meet that we do once per season is aimed at giving our young swimmers the opportunity to race in a full meet set up, with less pressure on them and is aimed at being a more fun learning experience for both the swimmer and parents and serves as part of the professional development of our coaches in various areas.
Bearing in mind that the health and wellbeing of our swimmers comes first especially due to the COVID-19 virus, we put a cap on the number of swimmers who were allowed to swim. We had 7 coaches, 10 volunteer parent officials and 73 swimmers on the day!
We had all swimmers aged 9 and under, swim 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m front crawl. The 10-11 age group swimmers swam an additional 100m front crawl and 100m individual medley. The team spirit was very much alive as all swimmers cheered their fellow team mates in every race! The swim meet was run in an efficient and timely manner with the meet starting at 8:30 am and ending at 10:40am.
For some swimmers this was their first meet and the feedback was positive. For many of the swimmers there were a lot of personal best times swam showing them that their hard work has been paying off. For the coaching staff it was a great meet to see what areas our swim team are doing well in and where we can be better. To sum up- this was a great meet that helped captivate the energy and the enthusiasm of our young swimmers! These meets are so important for our young starts and I believe that this can only be positive for our community here at East!
