East basketball standout selected for Junior NBA All-Stars
By Nick Dunn, Chair of Activities, UWCSEA East
For the first time, 15 students from Singapore will form part of the Junior NBA All-Stars from Southeast Asia and get the chance to travel to China to watch a live NBA game in October.
The 10 boys and five girls were selected after the inaugural Junior NBA Singapore 2016 National Training Camp earlier this month. The three-day camp, conducted by five-time NBA Champion Ron Harper, featured the nation's top 200 boys and girls aged 10 to 14 at the OCBC Arena.
A total of 90 children from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore will watch a pre-season game between the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Pelicans at Shanghai's Mercedes-Benz Arena on 9 October. On top of meeting NBA players and legends, the participants will also tour the city and receive additional basketball training.
Will Bruhn (Grade 9) has been selected for the U14 age group and is one of the ten students selected from Singapore. Will made it after six weeks of Sunday training and then a three-day final selection camp. We are very proud of his accomplishments and wish him all the luck in his training in China.
