Dragons' Netball report: 2019 SEA Netball Tournament TTS and Straits Netball Tournament MCM

SEA Netball Tournament 2019 - TTS

On Saturday 9 March, 9 members of the U16 Netball squad met at Tanglin Trust School to compete in the annual SEA Netball tournament. Competing against schools from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Brunei, it was a tough contest with 17 teams in the U16 category.

Finishing 1st in the first round robin pool, the team were looking strong and confident! We went on to face some fantastic teams in the second round with some nail biting netball, taking a win and 2 draws! This lead us to a tense play off against Dulwich College, with a draw at full-time the game went into extra time. At the end of the first two minutes of extra time the UWCSEA Dragons had a 1-point lead but by the end of the final two minutes Dulwich pipped us to the win finishing 10-9!

Dulwich went on to win the final against Singapore Sports School and UWCSEA Dragons proudly finished 3rd overall, receiving a well deserved bronze medal - a great result at the end of a great day of netball and outstanding sportsmanship.

Straits Netball Tournament 2019 - MCM

On Saturday, 23 February, 8 members of the U19 Netball squad traveled to Marlborough College Malaysia to compete in the Straits Netball Tournament. With fellow teams from Singapore and a number of schools from Malaysia also competing we knew it was going to be a tough contest! As we arrived up the long drive to the fantastic netball facilities at MCM, there was a pang of nerves at the majority of our teams first ever netball tournament - but within minutes of taking the court the team were in their element!

Keeping high spirits and displaying fantastic sportsmanship, the team gave 100% in every game. We went from strength to strength with each match played and mastered a host of new skills and techniques as the on-court experience was lapped up.

Finishing 5th in our pool, the team was exhausted after 5 games in the sweltering heat. We all finished the day smiling and proud of our achievement - what a great experience for all!
