Dragons make strong showing at Dulwich swim meet

On Friday, 3 November around 150 swimmers from ages 7-14, headed to Dulwich College for a meet, the first race outside of school for many of the younger swimmers. En route, the team rallied our Dragons spirit, singing chants to help us get ready for the competition. 

We didn’t have a warmup, but nothing can stop the Dragons from winning. In the Girls 11-12 50m Fly, Mia came in first with a time of 33.92, and she didn't just come first in her age group she came first in the 50m Fly event as a whole all age groups. In the 13-14 age group, Lucy and Poppy came in 1st and 2nd with Lucy going 34.32 and Poppy going 34.69. In the boys 9-10 50m Fly, Kento finished 1st with a time of 35.12 seconds. In the 11-12 age group Loch came in 1st with the time 33.85, and in the 13-14 age group, Hamza (me) and Lachy came in 2nd and 3rd with Hamza going 30.35 and Lachy going 32.26. In the girls 100m IM, Mia finished 1st in the 11-12 age group with a time of 1:21.73 seconds an 11.81 second personal best (PB).

For the 13-14 girls, the duo Lucy and Poppy finished 1st and 2nd again with Lucy going 1:20.99 (a 19.75 second PB) and Poppy going 1:22.21. For the boys 11-12 100m IM James came in 2nd going 1:20.35. Next came the Girls 25m Backstroke and Olivia C came in 4th with the time 27.10. In the Girls 50 Backstroke in the 11-12 age group, Melody came in 1st with the time of 39.02 and the only girl in her age group going under 40 seconds. In the 13-14 age group, Sophia and Ema came in 1st and 2nd with Sophia going 36.27 and Ema going 37.69. For the boys 50m Backstroke in the 9-10 age group, Kento came in 1st again with the time 35.95, and was the only boy in his age group under 40 seconds. In the girls, 50m Breaststroke, Melody won her age group going 40.50 seconds in her race, and she also beat Daisy who is two years older than she is who went 40.72 winning her 13-14 age group. In the boys 50m Breaststroke in the 13-14 age group Hamza (me) came in 2nd with the time 35.46, then came Jasper in 3rd with certainly the swim of the day, he went 36.66 making a 6.67 second PB.In the Girls 8 and under 25m Free Tvisha went 20.11 winning the event. Later on came the Girls 50m freestyle and in the 13-14 age group, the top 5 were all Dragons. 1st Ema, 2nd Daisy, 3rd Lucy, 4th Poppy and 5th Kaila (Maxine). In the boys, 50m Free Kento won his 9-10 age group “again” with the time 31.87. In the 13-14 age group, Lachy came in 2nd with the time 27.77 seconds, also with Rasmus in 4th and Lucas M in 7th both breaking the 30-second mark. Next came the relays: the Dragons came first in 9-10 4x50m medley relay, the 11-12 4x50m medley relay and in the 13-14 4x50m medley relay the A and B teams came in 1st and second. In the mixed 11 and over 8x50m Freestyle Canon Relay the Dragons came in 1st.

Overall this meet was a fun experience for younger kids and even though we had a rough start with a bus getting lost and no warmup, we showed our Dragons spirit, didn’t give up and gave it our all. We all cheered for each other and showed why the Dragons are on top.
