Checkmate: East students find success at chess championships

The prestigious 68th National Schools Individual Chess Championships 2016 took place in the Pasir  Ris Sports Hall and had over 800 participants across the different categories.
The tournament was well attended by various schools from all zones of Singapore and took place over two days. Team UWCSEA East was proudly represented by Aarav Desai, Aryan SahiVedant Kumar, Advait Bagri, Arunav Maheshwari, Aarushi Maheshwari, Aabir Mukherjee and Ayaan Sen Monappa. The team stood out with their unfailing spirit and resilience and it was great to see the children play the tournament with such discipline and dedication. 
We are proud to have received four medals in the tournament and to have been named Champion of the East Zone in the Senior Boys Division.
Junior Division Girls
Aarushi Maheshwari ranked 37th out of 86 participants and 6th in the East Zone
Senior Division Boys 
Advait Bagri ranked 3rd overall out of 254 participants and 1st in the East Zone , receiving a medal as East Zone Champion
Arunav Maheshwari ranked 61st overall and 9th in the East Zone
Aabir Mukherjee ranked 65th overall and 11th in the East Zone
