Alard Schroeder completes a solo swim across the English Channel
Kris Gilchrist, Head of Aquatics - Dover Campus
Alard Schroeder, Grade 11 student at Dover Campus, completed a solo swim crossing of the English Channel on 7 August 2017 in 11 hours and 33 seconds.
This is an incredible feat, which required a huge amount of dedication, planning and support.
Alard spent the whole of his summer break preparing for this monster swim. After several emotionally draining days of hanging around due to inclement weather conditions, he was finally given the go ahead, and finished the 52km crossing from Dover (England - not UWCSEA) to Calais in a time of 11 hours and 33 minutes, despite very challenging weather conditions.
This is a fantastic achievement, and the UWCSEA Phoenix team are incredibly proud of Alard.
Alard is obviously taking a well deserved break from swim training, but please feel free to congratulate him if you see him on campus.
Great job Alard!
