26th Annual Sports Award - Phoenix athletes are the Champions of the night!

26th Annual Sports Award - Phoenix athletes are the Champions of the night!

Friday, 27 April 2018 was the 26th UWCSEA Dover Annual Sports Awards. It was a captivating and delightful evening celebrating the students, teams, their achievements, success and the joy sports brings to the entire community.

The evening's program allowed 27 different teams to celebrate their season with a short video, season review and finishing with coaches giving awards to the student-athletes in their teams. A sports quiz followed by a performance from our gymnasts provided some sensational and thrilling entertainment during the evening. Towards the end of the evening we recognised and awarded student-athletes into the coveted Phoenix Roll of Honour. The Roll of Honour is given to students who competed at a 19U National Singapore level or equivalent during this academic year. The evening culminated in the awards for the All-round Sports Boy of the Year, All-round Sports Girl of the Year and for the Rudy Beck Contribution to Sports (list of all students awarded can be found below).

It was an amazing evening of celebration of UWCSEA Dover sports and we would once again like to congratulate all student-athletes at UWCSEA Dover.

UWCSEA offers more sports programs than any other school on the island. Even with such depth of diverse sports programs available at our school, all of our first teams manage to excel in their sports both in the local as well as in international Southeast Asia sports competitions. All of our 19U A teams competed in Division 1 in both our local ACSIS league and the SEASAC competition. Out of 19 competitions in ACSIS all of our first teams finished in the top three, almost half (9 teams) won the championship with another seven finishing in second place. Similarly in SEASAC out of 22 competitions our teams finished in the top two places a total of 16 times. Some staggering statistics for this year.

The challenge is to improve, to always get better, even when you are the best…especially when you are the best.” James Kerr
