D&T Talk: Learning through doing with Christian Duell

Overview of Talk

Central to the principles of design thinking and the design process is the act of taking courageous action. As John Dewey famously said “we do not learn from experience...we learn from reflecting on experience.” Therefore in the context of education it is process of taking action and reflecting on this action that presents the great moments of insight inherent in learning.
In this presentation I will share the insights we have gained through the experience of implementing a unique design thinking platform for teachers in Queensland, Australia called Design Minds. I will explore the value of engaging students in physical activities such as rapid prototyping and the role of technology in heightening the learning gained through these experiences.
