Workshop: Developing Literacy and Language across the Middle Years
In the rush for “earlier” is better, we often forget that the middle school years are prime for acquiring and developing a new language. Despite this, there is less available in terms of information and resourcing on language acquisition for middle school than for the primary years. In this interactive half-day workshop we will look at the following topics:
- Challenges for language learners in schools
- Developing language-integrated teaching across the curriculum
- Developing knowledge and practice for accelerating academic literacy
- Translanguaging pedagogy in the middle years
Participants will leave with a clear, research informed understanding of their multilingual learners. with practical strategies to apply in the classroom immediately, and with ideas for next steps within their school context.
