Come explore UWCSEA
Mallika Ramdas
Director of Admissions
A very warm welcome as you explore UWCSEA with us! I am so excited that you have chosen to learn more about the UWC in Singapore as a possible destination for yourself (if you are a student) or for your child or children.
Reflecting on her journey since graduating, one of our alumni once said to me: “UWCSEA makes one a global citizen and instils in you an appreciation for difference.” Never have these traits been as important as they are now.
I know without a doubt that the unique concept-based and holistic education we offer kickstarts our students on that path to global citizenship and appreciating difference. Understanding oneself and others, engaging with difference in all its myriad forms, grappling with varied perspectives in one’s interactions within and beyond the classroom, and striving for collaborative, creative, and compassionate action even when you may not agree with each other’s views, is at the heart of every element that makes up our holistic learning programme: academics, activities, outdoor education, personal and social education, and service.
Making “education a force to unite people, nations, and cultures for peace and a sustainable future” is not easy, but the UWC movement continues to be as committed to its mission today as it was when this mission was first adopted over 50 years ago. Like every other UWC in our global movement of 18 schools and colleges, we work towards this mission by enabling a deliberately diverse group of young people—our students—to participate in a challenging and transformative educational experience while demonstrating through their behaviour a commitment to our core values.
To foster this intentionally diverse student community, we engage in a holistic admissions process. Students are selected from an applicant pool of young people who have met our entrance criteria and demonstrated that they have the potential to live up to the mission and values of the College and thrive in all elements of our holistic learning programme.
Having worked at UWCSEA for nearly 20 years, as Head of University Advising and an IB English Teacher in the High School, and now in leading our Admissions team, I am a strong advocate for the transformative power of a UWCSEA education. I invite you to learn more about us by exploring this website, by attending an Open Day and visiting our campuses (in person or virtually), and by contacting us with any questions you may have.
My colleagues and I very much look forward to hearing from you!
Warm regards,
Mallika Ramdas
