This page explains how we approach applicants who indicate they may require Learning Support, including our process and timeline. Details about our Learning Support offering can be found on our website at this link

Learning Support Applications

UWCSEA welcomes applicants with mild learning difficulties. We have a small team of experienced learning support teachers working across all grades to help students successfully access our curriculum. Places within our Learning Support programme are limited by grade.

Please note that based on the resources and services available on our campuses, UWCSEA is not an appropriate school for students with moderate to severe learning or behavioural support needs.

The Application Process

If your child has previously received individual or small-group support, please contact Admissions for guidance before submitting an application. When you apply, we require you to submit:

  • Current and historical school reports.
  • Full details of any learning support provided in the past.
  • Copies of all specialist educational or psychological reports.

Review

We review applications on a case-by-case basis to ensure we can provide the necessary support for your child to progress confidently in our Learning Programme. In some cases, we may request additional information about your child’s learning profile, even if you have not explicitly applied for learning support.

Assessment

Applicants who may require learning support are typically invited for an assessment or interview to confirm we can effectively support their individual needs. Our goal is to understand your child as a learner. For comprehensive details on what these sessions entail, please visit our Assessments and Interviews page.

School Outreach and Observations

Because applicants come from diverse educational backgrounds, we may need to learn more about their current learning environment. With your permission, we may reach out to your child's current school leadership or teachers.

Occasionally, we may also request to observe your child by inviting them to join UWCSEA students on our campus so we can observe peer interactions, or our team observing them in their current school environment. We will always seek your permission first.

Parents do not need to be present for these observations, as we want to see how your child naturally engages with their learning.

Admissions Decisions

We make a decision after carefully evaluating all compiled information, and confirming that we can effectively support the student. Please note that we are unable to provide detailed individual feedback to families.

  • Space Availability: We usually confirm Learning Support space availability later in the school year. So, we may not be able to consider your child for an offer during the first round, even if you meet the initial application deadline.
  • Information for Re-applicants: If you have previously applied and are applying again to the College, we may advise you not to submit your application too early in our cycle. Waiting ensures there is sufficient time for a completely new set of school or specialist reports to be generated and included with your re-application.

For information about application deadlines, and date of offer rounds, please visit our page explaining the Application Timeline.

We invite you to explore our Learning Support offering in greater detail on our website, along with more information about our Learning Programme.
