Age-Grade Placement

Dover Academics IS Infants Sports Morning

Guiding our age-grade placement guidelines is our belief, supported by research and experience, that students placed within a cohort of similarly aged peers are more likely to benefit from our learning programme. The holistic nature of our educational model means that students interact closely with their peers not only within the academic curriculum, but also in activities and service, during the outdoor education programme, and in their personal and social education journey.

Significant differences in students’ ages and developmental stages within the same class or cohort can be challenging for both the young person who is placed ‘out of grade’ as well as for the students’ peers.

Placement is according to age by 1 September of the year of entry, using the following guidelines:

K1 to Grade 1

We do not enrol students in K1 if they are aged below our age-grade boundary
; the minimum age for placement is strictly according to being aged 4 before 1 September of the year of entry.

Please note that above-grade placements will not be considered under any circumstances for any of our Infant School grades (K1, K2, Grade 1).

For other out of grade placement requests, we require a full application submission and review process to be able to assess the applicants’ suitability.

Grades 2–8

Placement is strictly according to age by 1 September of the year of entry. It is possible to request placement in a grade below if that follows the educational history of your child.

Grades 9, 10 and 11

Out of grade placements are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Boarding

Boarding applications are accepted for students joining Grade 8 and above.
