UWCSEA profile

The UWCSEA learning programme provides a breadth of opportunity that enables learners to develop the skills and qualities of the UWCSEA profile. The profile is derived from our mission and supported by current research in education. Through the development of these skills and qualities, members of our community lead by example, embrace challenge and take responsibility for shaping a better world. While each skill and quality is identified separately, they are interconnected and impact each other.

Qualities

Commitment to care

Initiate actions and make a commitment to shaping a better world.

  • concern for the environment and a commitment to a sustainable future
  • concern for inequity and a commitment to social justice

Principled

Act with integrity and respect for self and the dignity of others.

  • responsibility for personal actions and the resulting consequences
  • ethical and socially responsible behaviour
  • moral courage when confronting injustice
  • sense of fairness

Resilient

Anticipate, persevere and confront challenge.

Aspects of being resilient:

  • optimistic and confident attitude when faced with challenge
  • courage in unfamiliar situations
  • persevere by viewing obstacles as opportunities to learn
  • work effectively in a climate of ambiguity and changing priorities

Self-aware

Develop intellectual, physical, spiritual and emotional well-being.

  • responsibility for being active and healthy
  • recognise, reflect and regulate feelings to manage emotions effectively

Skills

Critical thinker

Reason in an informed and fair-minded manner.

Imagine and generate new possibilities or alternatives.
