Service at UWCSEA
One vital aspect of a UWCSEA education is service. Service is an integral part of the UWC philosophy and the College's three-tiered model of service provides opportunities for students to become involved in each level of the uniquely structured programme.
- College Service, for example older students helping younger students in sports teams and in the classrooms;
- Local Service, including visiting homes and hospitals for the elderly and disabled;
- Global Service, becoming involved in the implementation of a range of Global Concerns initiatives in the developing world. Graduating UWCSEA students also participate in the College Gap Year programme in South East Asia for up to 12 months.
Students participate in Local Service and Global Concerns projects within the school day and every student is expected to be involved in some way. They are expected to take their service commitments seriously, understanding that their participation is highly valued by those with whom they work.
The College supports more than 60 Local Service programmes; over 40 Global Concerns programmes; the Initiative for Peace; several Gap Year options and nine SEALinks projects.
