I had the pleasure of spending four remarkable months in Ladakh where I was teaching English to students in Thiksey, a small village situated approximately 20km from Leh. The name of the school where I was teaching at was the Lamdon Model School of Thiksey.

The annual Careers Fair for High School students was held on East Campus for the first time this year. With more than 90 volunteer participants from the parent community, several UWCSEA alumni and a few external volunteers, students were able to speak directly with professionals from fields as diverse as commodities trading and art therapy.
Maintaining strong connections with Singapore is an ongoing focus for the College. On Thursday, 28 February the Dover Campus Infant School welcomed Minister Heng Swee Keat, and a group of his colleagues to find out more about the UWCSEA approach to learning in early childhood.

We were doing a Gap Year, organised through Round Square, working with the Spanish Department to help the teachers. We worked with students from Grade 1 to Grade 12. With the Primary School students, we were able to help in class with activities and asnwering questions, and with the IB DP students we were able to assist them to practice for their oral exams. At UWCSEA, we define learning as a life-long process in which learners engage with and reflect upon information and experiences to construct new or modify existing understanding as well as develop and apply skills and qualities. Defining learning provokes the question, "How do we learn?"

An aspect of UWCSEA that students greatly benefit from is the interaction we have with our Principals. We are all familiar with the task specific expertise of the Head of Dover Campus, Frazer Cairns and the numerous talks he had delivered: topics ranging from journalism in English, to string theory in Physics. However, over the weekend on 6 September, a small group of Dover students had the wonderful opportunity of attending a course on leadership development, led by the Head of College, Julian Whiteley.
